An Introduction to PSTricks

PSTricks is an excellent tool for quickly drawing technical diagrams. It also has enough depth to then gradually add features until the diagrams become quite sophisticated. I use pstricks to populate technical documents in LaTeX with both technical and notional diagrams. Examples of both simple and sophisticated graphics (eg., here, here, here, and here, among others) are available to give you ideas.

Note that If you downloaded the MikTeX LaTeX distribution, you already have PSTricks.

I recommend visiting the PSTricks homepage often to learn more about the capabilities of the package. But we'll show you how to quickly get started on this web site.

To begin, suppose we need to draw a simple notional feedback control diagram containing, say, boxes, circles, and lines. We'll also attached some labels. We'll start with the basics and eventually end up with the finished product looking like:
