GNU Development Tools
The Cygwin development tools provide a Unix-like bash shell
("Bourne-again shell"), or environment, for use on a Windows machine.
In this way, many Unix-based software packages, especially those being developed
under the GNU public license (GPL) for use with Linux, can be ported to Windows.
Cygnus is now a subsidiary of Red Hat, but has been the major impetus behind the
continuing developing of the GNU Compiler Collection (gcc).
